ABOUT

The “My Life As” video series helps students and parents to learn about great careers available in Houston’s growing industries, the education employers require for those positions, and the steps for young adults to obtain them.

The “My Life As” videos, career fact sheets, and other resources on this website were produced by UpSkill Houston, in partnership with leading area employers and regional school districts. This website and its contents are part of UpSkill Houston’s What Are You Up For? Campaign to inspire students to pursue good-paying, rewarding careers that require less than a four-year college degree.

Thriving industries in the Houston region offer a variety of technical and craft careers that can be obtained with two years or less of education beyond a high school diploma. There are thousands of these positions open.

UpSkill Houston is a collaborative of employers, K-12 school districts, higher education institutions, and community service organizations that work together to address the skills gap facing the Houston region. An important step in addressing the skills gap is to increase the awareness of the many careers in the area that offer good salaries, great benefits, exciting pathways for growth and skills that last a lifetime—with education beyond a high school diploma, but less than four-years of college. UpSkill Houston brings stakeholders together to create shared prosperity for area families and enable high-demand industries in the region to grow.
